Patsy's Story:
I opened
the store in October of 1996 after
retiring from being the office
manager in medical offices. My
first choice would have been to do
weddings, but I knew I couldn't keep
up the pace. I drag everyone in my
family to help me with my projects,
and I thought this would be too
much.
We decorate the small store, and
kept the same type of black
wallpaper with pink roses, and pink
satin striped wallpaper. I moved
several pieces of furniture from
home into the space, and it felt
cozy. I used hooks on the walls
instead of a lot of store type
fixtures, so all the merchandise was
facing out. I had fun with the
decorating.
With my retirement fund from
the medical office, and some
family donations, I was
ready to go to market in San
Francisco. I didn't know
there were market "days".
Also, didn't know where the
market was, but sitting on
the bed in the hotel after
arrival, I found that the
market was within walking
distance.
We had good and bad
experiences at the market,
but it was so exciting. My
sister went with me. The
first brand I bought was
Christian Dior. Some of the
prettiest clothes I ever
had. I was so excited. I
loved the clothes for
children, I adored the baby
clothes. I never got over
that excitement.
The name of the store
evolved after having
suggestions and ideas of
quite a few names I liked.
However, when Precious Child
came to my mind, I quit
thinking about it or asking
for advice. The name still
pleases me as that is how I
feel about children.
The store has been a
wonderful experience for me,
and all my grandchildren and
grand nieces and nephews
benefited from it. I still
see two little great
grandchildren in the quality
clothing they have inherited
from their cousins.
Many experiences I had in the
store with my customers are
cherished. It gave me an
opportunity to know many people,
and enjoy their children.
